Magnum Wine (1.5 Liter)
IN THE BOTTLE
The grapes for our Cabernet Sauvignon come from Lodi, an area south of Sacramento in California's Central Valley. Full bodied yet plush, there are aromas of blackberries and black cherries, with herbaceous notes like bay leaf and green bell pepper in the background. Oak aging adds a touch of vanilla on the finish.
CLASSIC FLAVOR PROFILES OF VARIETAL
Cabernet Sauvignon tends towards dark fruits like black currant, blackberry, and black plum. Even when ripe, Cabernet will have elevated tannins and higher acidity, two characteristics that make it the backbone of some of the world’s most age-worthy wines. When grown in a warm climate, Cabernet tends to be richer and fruitier, but when grown in cooler climates, it shows herbaceous notes, including tarragon and green bell pepper.
VARIETAL FACTS
Cabernet Sauvignon has thick, durable skins and the vine's tough wood makes it resistant to frost. When combined with its ability to produce quality grapes at high yields, it thrives worldwide, from Chile to China and everywhere in between. It is easy to grow, and it tastes delicious, so no wonder it has gotten the nickname "the king of grapes."
HISTORY
Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a region in southwest France called Bordeaux. Although Bordeaux has grown quality wine since medieval times, Cabernet Sauvignon was only identified in the late 18th century. In 1996, genetic researchers at California's UC Davis discovered that Cabernet Sauvignon is an accidental cross of a red Cabernet Franc vine and a white Sauvignon Blanc vine. Even though many had noticed the similarities between Cabernet Sauvignon and its parents, previously no one thought it was possible for a red grape to come from red and white parents.
DID YOU KNOW?
Cabernet is high in tannins: think of the grippiness on your gums after tasting a Cabernet. Fats and proteins bind with tannins, so pairing a tannic wine with a protein-rich food makes the wine feel less astringent. That is why ribeye paired with Cabernet makes the wine suddenly become velvety smooth.
