Curated Icons | Cakebread Chardonnay  

The next chapter in our Curated Icons collection continues a bold vision from Cooper’s Hawk founder Tim McEnery: to collaborate with some of the world’s most iconic wineries and bring their legacy, craftsmanship, and stories directly to our Members. With each release, we celebrate not only exceptional wines, but the people and places behind them. We are proud to partner with Cakebread Cellars again, this time showcasing a Chardonnay that captures the elegance and nuance of Carneros.  

At the southern edge of Napa Valley, Carneros is shaped by its proximity to the San Pablo Bay, where cool breezes and rolling fog define the growing season. Each afternoon, a blanket of fog drifts in from the bay and lingers into the morning before slowly lifting. This natural rhythm extends the growing season, allowing grapes to ripen gradually while preserving their vibrant acidity. It is this balance of sunshine and cool air that makes Carneros one of the world’s great regions for Chardonnay.  

The Cakebread Chardonnay reflects this environment beautifully. Barrel fermentation lends a signature richness and a gentle toasty expression, while the cool climate fruit brings freshness and lift. In the glass, the wine shows layers of ripe apple, citrus, and stone fruit, accented by notes of vanilla, baked apple, and subtle spice. The texture is creamy yet precise, finishing with a bright, refreshing acidity that keeps each sip in perfect balance. It is a classic expression of Cakebread’s style, polished, expressive, and deeply connected to place.  

The label offers a window into life in the Carneros vineyards. Sheep graze between the vines, a familiar springtime sight, naturally managing the cover crop while contributing to the health of the soil. In the background, soft layers of fog roll through the hills, a visual nod to the maritime influence that defines the region. It is a scene that speaks to both tradition and thoughtful farming, where sustainability and stewardship are part of everyday practice.
