2021 Tasting Notes

This wine has a rich red brick color with a slightly purple rim. On the nose are aromas of blackberry, cherry, plum, anise, butterscotch, and vanilla. The rich palate is supported by firm yet full tannins, and well-balanced acidity. The finish is rich and long, with flavors of cherry, raspberry, and baking spices. This wine pairs very well with our Cooper’s Hawk Trio of Medallions, the Cooper’s Hawk Leonard Burger, or almost any grilled red meat. 

2022 Tasting Notes

The 2022 release is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, which provides an incredible structure, or framework for the rest of the blend. The other grapes add lush fruit, dark color, a pop of spice or herbs and other flavors. Like all prior Barrel Reserve wines, this is bold and powerful with jammy blackberry and black cherry flavors. Look for pepper, vanilla, and clove notes balanced by a soft herbal tone of bay leaf and bell pepper. Velvety tannins are matched with tangy acidy producing a long, spice laden finish. 

2023 Tasting Notes

Our 2023 Barrel Reserve is the most complex blend yet! Our winemakers set aside lots of wine that they feel have the qualities needed to be enhanced with barrel aging. These wines are firm, dark, and rich with bold tannins. Barrel aging softens those tannins and rounds out the texture, making it velvety and smooth. The oak also adds spicy notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove along with sweeter notes of vanilla and caramel. The varietals used are all known for their power and intensity. Cabernet Sauvignon is the ideal frame for a blend as it adds structure and depth. Juicy grapes like Merlot, Zinfandel, and Grenache bring in lusciousness while grapes like Malbec, Petite Sirah, and Alicante add dark color and violet flavors. Petite Sirah, Tannat, and Syrah all add the darkest spice notes to the blend. The combined symphony of these has a palate loaded with blackberry, black current, clove, dark chocolate, and coffee flavors. This is a dark and spicy wine worthy of enjoying with a great meal today or cellaring for years to come.
