Winter White Wine
IN THE BOTTLE
Our Winter White is made from a base of white wine and yields aromas of baked pear, yellow apple, clove, nutmeg, and orange peel. Think of a warm apple pie.
CLASSIC FLAVOR PROFILES OF VARIETAL
To make Winter White we take a blend of white wine and infuse it with mulling spices for a few days. We use warming spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove, while also adding orange peel for an aromatic citrus note.
VARIETAL FACTS
Mulled wine is a spiced and heated wine common throughout Europe during the holiday seasons, often served at Christmas markets. In some countries, mulled wine recipes will add brandy for an additional kick.
HISTORY
Spiced and heated wine can be traced back to the Romans in the 2nd century BCE. As they spread across Europe, they conquered what they could and traded with the rest, spreading their love of wine as far north as Scotland. Methods to heat spiced wine varied, but one of the most dramatic used a glowing hot poker thrust into a mug. In Germany this tradition is called "glühwein," or literally glowing wine.
DID YOU KNOW?
This can be served cool or warm, but if served warm, make sure it is not too hot or the alcohol will evaporate away. Garnish the wine with an orange slice. It is also delicious in sangrias! We often feature these around the holidays for those who want these flavors without the warmth.
