Sparkling Moscato Wine
IN THE BOTTLE
Light, fresh, and fruity. Flavors of cantaloupe, honeydew, honey, orange, and white flowers. This sparkling wine is made in one quick fermentation and bottled immediately to preserve the exotic flavors inherent Muscat. Our Sparkling Moscato is great either before or after dinner because it is slightly sweet and remains refreshing.
CLASSIC FLAVOR PROFILES OF VARIETAL
Wine made from Muscat has a distinctive "grapey" flavor (think grape Jolly Ranchers). When made a still or sparkling wine, Muscat tends to focus on ripe fruit flavors along with a bouquet of flowers. If made into a dessert wine, often notes of ginger, honey, and orange marmalade will dominate the wine. For dry styles, winemakers tend to focus on the fruit and tone down the floral notes.
VARIETAL FACTS
Moscato is the Italian name for the grape Muscat of Alexandria (often shortened to just Muscat), which is one of the most aromatic grape varietals. The most well-known Moscato from Italy is from the Piedmont region of northwest Italy, an appellation called Moscato d'Asti. We have crafted our Sparkling Moscato to be similar: fresh, bubbly, and moderately sweet in style.
HISTORY
Muscat of Alexandria grape is one the world's oldest grape varieties. Although Muscat originated in Greece, its ability to tolerate heat and drought and still achieve high sugar levels was very desirable in ancient times. Because the ability to create refined white sugar was unknown at the time, ancient peoples prized anything sweet, and so grapes like Muscat quickly spread throughout the Mediterranean.
DID YOU KNOW?
Muscat is often used to make fortified dessert wines (a style of wine like our Nightjar), and one of the most prized examples in the world is a Muscat from Rutherglen, Australia. Some Rutherglen Muscats are aged for over twenty years and develop rich tawny notes that make it a perfect after-dinner drink.
