60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Zinfandel, all from California. Notes of ripe blackberries, black currants, and red plum with chocolate and baking spices on the finish. Full bodied with a long, ripe finish.

CLASSIC FLAVOR PROFILES OF VARIETAL 

Zinfandel is fruit forward and spicy, softening the bold character of Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet Sauvignon is full bodied and earthy, providing the wine's structure. The two of them combined create a well-balanced, harmonious blend. 

VARIETAL FACTS 

Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel are two of the most beloved grapes in America, but that is where their similarity ends. Cabernet Sauvignon is all about power, dark fruit, and tannic structure. Zinfandel is known for having lots of vivid, fruity flavors with some black pepper spice notes. 

HISTORY 

The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel can be quite common, but the most famous blend of the two is a wine called The Prisoner, created by Dave Phinney. After the 2000 harvest, Dave had some leftover Cabernet and Zinfandel that did not fit with his other wines, so he blended them together (along with a little bit of Charbono, Petite Sirah, and Syrah) and found that the sum was greater than the parts. Thus, The Prisoner was born.

We do not list the percentage of our blends at Cooper's Hawk because they can change from bottling to bottling. The Cab Zin is the exception to the rule.
